Mother Of 3, Isla Guzman, Gets Arrested, Waiting Deportation

A 48-year-old woman who is married and has three children was recently arrested and taken into custody by ICE. She was arrested after she reported to the downtown office. She thought that it was going to be a routine check in. The woman, whose name is Isla Guzman, came to the United States illegally in 1999 when she crossed the California border.

Isla wore her ankle monitor and submitted to routine checks. She said that she had done everything that she was supposed to do. Isla moved to St. Louis in 2000. She married a United States citizen last year. Isla does not have a criminal record and has paid taxes for every job that she has worked.

Isla has been married to her husband, Steve Miller, for a year. He stated that people should go after the real criminals and leave his wife alone. She is scheduled to go back to Honduras next week.

Steve tried to file a petition to get permanent residency for Isla six months after they got married; however, it is still pending. If Isla’s petition is not removed before she is scheduled to be deported, then she has no chance of coming back to the United States.

Isla’s attorney has filed emergency paperwork in order to delay the deportation. On October 21, 2014, ICE took Isla into custody. She was placed under supervision. On December 2018, the federal immigration judge decided not to re-open the case. She will stay in ICE custody until she goes back to Honduras.
